Information for Upcoming Season

Meet Information

Deadline for registration: May 15, 2025 by 6:00 p.m.

Venue: The Regional and District Meets will be held at CaraCo Track at the Invista Centre.

Age Categories for 2025 Track and Field Meets:

  • Senior: students born in 2012 or earlier
  • Bantam: students born in 2013 or 2014
  • Atom: students born in 2015 or 2016

Athletes can choose to move up to a higher age category, but must do this for all events including relay.

Events Offered:

  • 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1200m, and 4x100m relay
  • Shot put
  • Long jump, triple jump, high jump
  • 2000m (Senior)
  • 400m wheelchair race (OPEN if necessary)

Athletes must be properly conditioned/trained for events. No walkers, must be able to jump minimum heights for high jump.

Each event will be called only twice over the PA System.

Athletes per school: Each school is entitled to enter 4 students in each event and 1 relay team per age category.

Events per athlete: Each athlete may enter a maximum of 3 individual events and 1 relay event.

Medals:  Medals will be awarded to the top athletes in each age category.  If a tie exists, both athletes will receive medals.  Individual points will be awarded as follows:

  • 1st place: 7 points
  • 2nd place: 5 points
  • 3rd place: 3 points
  • 4th place: 1 point

Points will only be awarded for individual events.

Coaching: During an event, athletes are not allowed to receive assistance in any form (placing, lap times) from any non-officials unless they are in the stands. One warning will be given to the school involved. Any further infractions will result in the disqualification of the athlete involved in the second infraction.

Qualification for District Meet: Each region will send 5 athletes for each event and 3 relay teams per age category to the District Meet.

Region 3 will only send 4 athletes per event.

Track events

Event Priority: Track events take precedent over field events. If events are at the same time, athletes should report to the field event official to inform them that they are participating in a track event.

In high jump, the bar cannot be lowered and any competitor returning from a track event must take their jump at the current height.

It will be up to the convener to determine if a competitor has taken an unreasonable amount of time.

Spikes:  Shoes with plastic or metal spikes are not allowed.

Relays:  Schools may not combine athletes to form a team.

If a baton is dropped, the athlete who dropped it is the only one who can pick it up. If they did not interfere with other athletes, they can continue the race.

Athletes must stay in their lanes, even after the baton is passed. Any interference with athletes in other lanes may result in disqualification.

Lanes and Starting Positions: In all races with heats or timed finals, lanes are assigned on a random basis. An attempt will be made to disperse athletes from the same school.

The start of the 800m, 1200m, and 2000m races will use a curved start line. Athletes may cut into the inner lane at the break line just after the first turn.

The finalists for 100m and 200m are chosen as follows:

  • If there are 2 or 3 heats, the top 2 from each heat will advance to the final.  The other competitors will be chosen according to time
  • If there are more than 3 heats, the winner of each heat advances to the final.  The other competitors will be chosen according to time.
  • In the 100m and 200m finals, the athletes will be seeded based on time as follows:

Lane   1  2  3  4  5  6  7  8

Place  7  5  3  1  2  4  6  8

Field Events

Event Priority: Track events take precedent over field events.  If events are at the same time, athletes should report to the field event official to inform them that they are participating in a track event.

In high jump, the bar cannot be lowered and any competitor returning from a track event must take their jump at the current height.

It will be up to the convener to determine if a competitor has taken an unreasonable amount of time.

Placement: In shot put, long jump, and triple jump, each athlete gets 3 attempts. The top 8 competitors will be given 3 additional events. Results will be determined based on the best overall result. (The best of the 6 attempts)

If a tie occurs, the second best result will be compared, and then the 3rd etc.

Shot Put: (Senior)

Boys will use 4kg shots

Girls will use 3 kg shots

Triple Jump: Take off lines are available at 3m, 4m, 5m, 6m, 7m, and 9m. Athletes must choose before they jump.

High Jump: The starting heights are as follow:

Atom: 0.95m

Bantam: 1.05m

Senior Girls: 1.15m

Senior Boys: 1.20m

Heights will increase in 5 cm increments.

Tie Breaking Procedure: Ties in high jump will be decided as follows and only occur for 1st place:

  1. The athlete with the lowest number of jumps when the tie occurred shall be awarded the higher place.
  2. The lowest number of misses throughout the event.
  3. If a tie still remains, athletes get 1 jump at the failed height.  The height will then be lowered or raised to heights announced by the official with each athlete getting one jump until the tie is broken.

*Athletes jump in the same order and each time the bar is altered.

Jump Refusals:  2 refusals at any height will constitute a miss.

Regional/District Meets-A Review of Changes made in the last few years·

  • There is no longer a 3000m race.  It has been replaced with a 2000m race that is only open to Senior girls and boys.
  • There is no longer a 1500m race.  It has been replaced with a 1200m race.  This race will run for the atoms and bantams immediately following the 2000m and will run following the 200m finals for the Seniors.
  • All meets will start at 9:00 and will start with the 2000m and the first round of field events

Finish Line:

  • Timing:
    • Schools do not need to supply timers
    • Helpers are no longer needed. Certain schools will be asked to provide helpers on their date.

7. Number of athletes per region to advance to District Meet

  • Non-relay events – top 5 from each region will advance to District meet except for region 3 which will advance 4.
  • Relay events:
    • Top 3 relay teams from each region to the District meet
    • High jump – we will send 3 per region to the District instead of 5 like in the other events due to time constraints.

8. Registration:

  • Registration format – Microsoft Excel
  • Deadline for entries May 15, 2025
  • Past problems:
    • First – last names – please make sure they are in the correct column – otherwise file will be returned to you for correction
    • Use of capitals – first letter of first and last name only in capitals
    • Blocked cells – except for first and last names the cells on the sheet are blocked. If anything is put in these cells the track program will not take the entries.
    • Misspelled names – if names are spelled differently in two different events, the program considers the individual as 2 people. This creates a problem when the individual points are calculated for individual medals at the end of the meet.
    • New: there is a column to put in each athlete’s phonetic pronunciation of their name.  This is really important to help the announcer ensure that we are correctly announcing each student.
    • No changes can be made once registration has been sent in.
    • You do not need to register your athletes for the district meet. This is done automatically.- please let Darrell Scott know if a student(s) qualifies for the District meet but cannot make the District meet – where possible, we will notify the next qualifier.
    • If you have problems with registration, please email Paul Pennell (pennellp@limestone.on.ca) immediately

9. Other items:

  • We are asking all competitors, coaches, and parents to stay off the infield (as we have our sound equipment set up here) and off the track especially the area around the finish line- please include this in the permission form
  • Canteen
  • No food or drinks (except water) anywhere on the monodo surface, this includes the pit areas - this should be included in the permission form.
