Good morning coaches,

We hope that your junior basketball teams are rounding into shape, and that your games against other schools are going well. It has been great to see kids playing against kids, and parents and other students being able to watch them play.

In setting up the schedule for games, a number of factors were taken into consideration. Primarily these were geographical location, relative size of schools, and how strong coaches perceived their team would be.

Even in considering these factors, we are aware that strong teams are playing weaker teams at times.  If you find that scores are becoming increasingly lopsided in games, there are a number of ways that a coach of the stronger team can manage the score. These include no longer adding points onto a scoreboard; having the stronger team defend below the free throw line rather than half ( or even defending only the key area in a tough manner);  not having the stronger team fast break and score layups; or having the stronger team practice half court offense by completing a certain number of passes or running some type of offensive action before trying to score.

Hopefully these suggestions are helpful as the main idea behind Junior Basketball is to develop a love for the game in all participants.
