LESAA Basketball Update January 2

Happy New Year,
We hope that you have had a healthy and happy holiday season.
In light of most recent announcements, we felt it was important that we contact you concerning the direction we are taking regarding Elementary Sport next week, specifically the basketball season.
At this time, LESAA will remain in a ‘paused’ state. The situation with interschool sport is still taking shape based on directives from both the Ministry and Public Health. LESAA will be mirroring the approach that KASSAA is taking with secondary sport.
Similar to the situation in the fall, discussions next week with the Health Unit will direct us as to when practices can resume. Presently we are working on an initial step of returning to practice. Once this step is established, LESAA is exploring opportunities to return to play for basketball. We are hoping that this return will include regional divisions that will allow teams to play games in a scheduled manner against schools in their vicinity. This approach has built in flexibility and will eliminate larger tournaments, thereby reducing the potential impacts of positive COVID cases on other schools.
More information concerning this new format will follow once LESSA receives direction from the LDSB and Public Health next week.
